A Report on the Situation of the Ill Imprisoned Dervishes; Judicial and Security Authorities Are Responsible for Worsening of the Jailed Dervishes’s Condition

ill-dervishes

In the security wards of prisons in our own country, the fate of a political prisoner’s health and their basic human rights will be determined by the will of a group of rogue forces and unfortunately not by the constitution.

There are many prisoners who have to endure year after year of long-term imprisonment just because of to be called as “enemy” by an authoritarian mindset. These prisoners either have lost their lives or suffer from chronic incurable disease due to their poor health resulting from inadequate sanitation.
Aside from the failure to address the psychiatric effects of solitary confinement, in security and general wards, physical health of prisoners is not particularly indebted to specialized doctors but depends upon the judge or security officer’s comments.

Severe shortage of medical facilities, unsafe and old medical devices , transfer of prisoners to the infirmary that is located in inappropriate circumstances, interruption time during treatment process, preventing ill prisoners from being sent to a specialized hospital, to put hard ways to deliver food and medicine to the prison by their families, are some cases that are important in the matter of endangering health and safety of inmates.
In the meantime, imprisoned Nematollahi Gonabadi Dervishes in Tehran’s Evin and Shiraz’s Adel-Abad prisons are not immune from the consequence of the violations of the laws by a group of rogue forces.
Hamid-Reza Moradi, Mostafa Daneshjou, Amir Eslami, Farshid Yadollah Omid Behroozi, Ebrahim Bahrami, Afshin Karampour, Reza Entesari and Kasra Nouri are among those who their physical conditions are reportedly dire in prison.

Hamid-Reza Moradi, Gonabadi Dervishes activist, 14 months after interruption of his treatment by Judge Salavati, as a result of protest and strike of political prisoners at ward 350 of Evin prison, along with his other coterie of Nematollahi Gonabadi Sufi Order, Mostafa Daneshjou who had the same situation, was transferred to the Shohada e Tajrish hospital. The reason of his transfer was due to artery blockage in his legs and he was supposed to have Vascular surgery on Wednesday 29th Aban 1392 ( Nov 20 2013) but his surgery was postponed because of his undesirable heart condition. The cardiology consultant regarding his new heart scan, declared his heart condition is unsuitable for surgery and due to lack of specialized cardiac and cardiology services in Shohada e Tajrish hospital, Angiography in ” Tehran Heart Center hospital” is needed before aortic surgery, but Judge Salavati has opposed the move, therefore during this period, almost his necessary medical treatment and health care has been stopped.

Mostafa Daneshjou, lawyer and Gonabadi Dervish rights activist is suffering from severe respiratory disease and asthma and according to the coroner’s certificate his lung capacity has diminished with 40 percent during his jail term. His transfer to hospital was took place after he was unconscious in the bathroom in Evin prison as a result of acute exacerbation of his respiratory illness, asthma and also fluctuating blood pressure.

Amir Eslami, lawyer and Gonabadi Dervish rights activist who is serving the third year of his sentence, is suffering from acute cardiovascular disease. He was recently hospitalized for a heart attack on an emergency basis but after a few days he was sent back to prison. A year after his transfer of solitary confinement to Evin’s general Ward 350, while he has to tolerate acute Migraine headaches, again under order from judge Salavati along with six of his fellow inmates (jailed Dervishes) was transferred to damp, dark, wet and flooded basements in ward 209. The result of this unfair sentence was his acute headache exacerbation and aggravation of heart failure.

Omid Behroozi is another imprisoned Gonabadi Dervishes lawyer in Evin prison who suffers from acute arthritis and neck pain. His illnesses are due to prison’s non-standard beds and mattresses. Also because of cold temperature in solitary confinement in Evin’s 209 section, his left ear was injured and now he is suffering from hearing impairment, but the security forces or the responsible judge would not allow him to be sent to hospital for M.R.I to determine his physical condition.

Ebrahim Bahrami, imprisoned Gonabadi Dervish in Ebrat ward of Shiraz’s Adel-Abad prison, has been in temporary detention for more than 9 months. The trial judge has extended his detention period for the fourth time. He has been suffering from internal bleeding since one month ago but medical negligence has cause to heart problems for him and judicial-security authorities still refuse to transfer him to hospital for emergency treatment. According to his family members, in recent weeks, he was taken to prison infirmary several times but the prison doctors have prescribed just sublingual tablets so he remains in critical condition.

Kasra Nouri Gonabadi Dervish activist and a blogger, is suffering from severe back pain due to being held in the security section of Adel-Abad prison known as Ebrat ward for a long time. Regarding Adel-Abad prison infirmary’s diagnosis, he is suffering from spinal disc, sciatic nerve pain and respiratory disease so he must be taken to hospital for receiving the treatments. But he is not even allowed to be transferred to the hospital for M.R.I (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).

Farshid Yadollah, lawyer and Gonabadi Dervish rights activist suffers from hemorrhoids for last few months. Due to an illegal requirement for the use of prisoners’ uniform, handcuffs and fetters during the transfer of prisoners to hospital under order from judge Salavati, and also because of Yadollah’s refusal to wear prison uniform, his transfer to medical centers has been practically impossible.

Afshin Karampour and Reza Entesari have suffered a broken leg and arm. Despite bad repair of bones resulting from the wrong treatment, they have been prevented from transfer to hospitals outside the prison to treat the problems of their body movements. Reza Entesari’s hand was broken after he was beaten by security agents in the time of his arrest. Reza Entesary was arrested without a warrant during the night time and was interrogated while suffered from broken hand and rib bone. Afshin Karampour suffered multiple injuries including a broken leg and lumbar strains after falling from the three story bed due to prison’s non-standard beds and mattresses. But he has not yet received any medical treatment.
