Yesterday, the Members of International Organisation to Preserve Human Rights in Iran gathered in Trafalgar Square, London to demand the freedom of all political prisoners in Iran, and to stop the persecution of religious minorities in Iran.

This action was in response to the recent increased pressure by the extremist Iranian regime against all minorities and human rights activists. In particular the recent arrest of Narges Mohammadi, the human right activist, who is also unwell.

In the protests the members of IOPHRI expressed their dissatisfaction with the oppressive elements in the regime through shouting slogans in support of Nargest Mohammadi and religious minorities, as well as through playing music. In the protest the members of IOPHR also demanded the release of Mohammad –Ali Taheri the leader of Erfan Halegehi who is in danger of being executed.
One of the members of the IOPHRI stressed that these demonstrations will continue until the regime stops the oppression of religious minorities and human right activists. He stressed it seems the recent nuclear agreement has given extremist sections of the regime the green light to continue their policy of oppression as they no longer see sanctions or Western government objections as viable threat.
