Gonabadi Dervishes gathered in front of the Ministry of Justice on Valiasr Street, Tehran, on Sunday (Mehr, 6, 1393; September, 28, 2014). This was the third rally staged as part of the “Migration from Iran to Evin Prison” campaign by the Dervishes in front of judicial and governmental organizations.
The imprisoned Dervishes’ families also presented a reliable written report, supported with documents, on oppression of Gonabadi Dervishes over the last ten years, including the manner in which some of them had been arrested, went on trial, and have been treated during their imprisonment. They emphasized that they would stage another considerably larger rally in front of the ministry if their demands were not met properly.
It is worth mentioning that toward the end of the rally, there were more than 1000 Dervishes with more joining in. Subsequent to their meeting with the Minister of Justice, the imprisoned Dervishes’ families asked the Dervishes present in the rally to leave. These Dervishes went to their place of worship (Amir Soleimani hussainia) to say their noon and afternoon prayers and attend the Sufi meeting on Sunday evening. These Sufis have joined the “Migration from Iran to Evin Prison” campaign declaring that either the security-oriented approach to the Dervish community must stop or the Iranian state must put them behind bars too like their imprisoned brothers.
