Revolutionary court in Iran has sentenced Seyed Mohammad Alizadeh Tabatabai , an Iranian lawyer to 5o lashes convicted of roorback, four months prison for defamation and according to article 19 of Iran’s criminal code five years suspension from practicing law.

It has been reported that Mr. Alizadeh Tabatabai has revealed some information about former security deputy of Tehran’s prosecutor which has been distributed as an audio file. He has declared that he will reveal more untold information after the election is over.

Lawyers in Iran are facing difficulties to work. Many lawyers have been jailed because of doing their profession defending people’s rights. The government of Iran has been so harsh on lawyers whose clients are charged on political reasons. Since the presidential election 2009 the government of Iran has prosecuted 50 lawyers on the basis of demanding justice for people whose rights were violated. Many lawyers are still in jail and some of them even have not received trial in court.

Basically political convicts do not have rights to have lawyers and if they have any lawyer to defend them, accordingly the government of Iran will prosecute both the client and the lawyer. New illegal wave of government’s arrest has targeted lawyers in Iran which is very worrying.
