Iran’s coroner’s office announced this week that the incidence of fatal workplace accidents has risen by 14 percent.

Iranian media reported on Saturday February 23 that in the past 10 months, according to a report by the coroner’s office, 1,517 people have been killed in workplace accidents, which represents a 14-percent increase over similar statistics last year.

Five workers die in workplace accidents each day, according to this report.

Bahar News reported last November that 20,000 workers have been the victims of workplace accidents in the past year.

Iranian labour activists have been critical of the lack of adequate workplace safety regulations all across the country and coined the phrase “the silent death of workers” to describe the rising number of work-related deaths in recent years.
