Leftist activist Saeed Shirzad handed a one-year suspended sentence and 5 years probation

 

 

 

 

 

 

Leftist activist and children’s rights activist Saeed Shirzad, was arrested when agents from the Ministry of Security raided the volunteer campsite in the earthquake-stricken area of Sarand.

He was sentenced today, January 9th, 2013, to a one-year suspended term and 5 years probation.

According to obtained reports, Judge Pir Abassi presiding over Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court handed down the sentence stemming from the charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “activities in opposition groups.”

On August 11, 2012, Security agents arrested children’s rights activist Saeed Shirzad along with other activists who were administering aid to victims in the earthquake-stricken province of Azerbaijan. Shirzad was released on bail after he went on hunger strike in protest of his illegal incarceration.
