Iranian political prisoner Mohammad Davari was released on Monday September 8 from Ward 350 of Evin Prison at the end of his five-year prison sentence. The Kaleme opposition website reports that Davari was supposed to be released today, Tuesday September 9, but was instead released on Monday night.

Davari was the editor in chief of the Saham News website, which is linked to opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi. Davari was arrested after Mehdi Karroubi exposed the torture and death of election detainees at Kahrizak Prison.

Davari was arrested in September of 2009 and, after 60 days in solitary confinement and 110 days of detention at the Ministry of Intelligence, he was finally transferred to Ward 350 of Evin Prison to serve out a five-year sentence. He was not given any furloughs during his prison term.

Davari went on several hunger strikes during his imprisonment to protest against his mistreatment in jail.
