The Marivon Revolutionary Court has sentenced activist Dana Lenjabadi to one year in prison. The opposition website Kaleme reports that Lenjabadi has been found guilty of “propaganda against the regime.”
The report adds that he was also accused of acting against national security, but the court found insufficient evidence for this charge. He will still have to stand trial for the charge of disturbing the public peace.
Lenjabadi was arrested last February in Marivon at a protest against the hanging of three Kurdish prisoners in the city. He was also arrested in 2010 for taking part in a student strike and was given a one-year suspended sentence.
The report indicates that if the current sentence of the court is approved in the appellate court, his suspended sentence will then be activated, and he will have to serve two years in jail.
