June 22nd 2011 – Kaleme: Mohsen Aminzadeh, political activist and member of Institute of Humanities and Social Studies joined the prisoners of conscience on hunger strike immediately upon his returned to Evin prison on the afternoon of Tuesday June 22nd, 2011.
Given that Mohammad Javad Mozafari, one of the 12 prisoners of conscience on hunger strike has been granted a 3 day furlough in order to attend his mother-in-law’s funeral, the addition of Aminzadeh to those on hunger strike brings the total of the prisoners on hunger strike, protesting the killings of Haleh Sahabi and Hoda saber to twelve once again.
Aminzadeh was arrested on June 15th, 2009 and sentenced to 5 years prison after spending four months in solitary confinement. He had been grated furlough from prison in order to receive treatment for his kidney disease, but was once again summoned to Evin as a result of attending Hoda Saber’s funeral ceremony.
Aminzadeh, a member of the Institute of Humanities and Social Studies, retired after his arrest. He was deputy Foreign Minister during Khatami’s presidency and head of the reformist opposition coalition’s headquarters during the 1999 presidential campaign.
